On the ninth and final night of Channukah, the Chabad of Alabama held their annual Grand Menorah Lighting in the Saks Plaza at the Summit. In addition to the lighting of all nine of the menorah's candles, there were various activities people could participate in: a photo booth, a bubble artist, traditional Jewish songs, doughnuts and latkes in abundance and children were especially entertained by a hula hoop gymnast.
As the flames in the grand menorah were lit, leaders of the Chabad recited a prayer and thanked their community for all of their assistance and support throughout the past year; especially in light of a shooting at a synagogue in Pittsburgh in October. Following the lighting of the grand menorah was a gelt drop, where leaders of the Chabad tossed chocolate "gelt" coins out for children present.
