Chelsea City Councilman Tony Picklesimer is a member of the 20th graduating class of Certified Municipal Officials.
Picklesimer completed 40 hours of training to receive his Certified Municipal Official professional designation, and he was recognized during a Dec. 9 graduation ceremony held in Montgomery.
The Alabama League of Municipalities created this program for elected municipal officials in 1994 as a way to complete the cycle of training. Previously, there was no formal training for elected officials.
Through participation in statewide and regional conferences, Picklesimer received training on council meeting and parliamentary procedures, the Open Meetings Act, public records, duties of the mayor and council, zoning and planning as well as other municipal procedures.
“All CMO graduates spend many hours over several years attending day-long workshops and lectures on the finer points of municipal government,” said Ken Smith, Executive Director of the League of Municipalities. “Earning the CMO designation is a significant achievement, and I commend our graduates for their dedication and motivation to become better informed, more effective municipal officials.”
