A representative of Vapor Ministries, the beneficiary of this year's Shake and Bake 5K, says a prayer before the start of the race on Aug. 5, 2017.
About 150 runners got to the Town of Mt Laurel bright and early this Saturday morning.
The runners were preparing for the 14th annual Shake and Bake 5K, which took place Aug. 5. The run always benefits a soccer-based non-profit, and this year, the race raised money for Vapor Ministries.
Vapor Ministries is a Sylacauga-based non-profit that seeks to establish sustainable systems in third-world environments and works to share the Christian message, alleviate poverty and build sustainable ministry centers in the communities where they work. At the center of each of these ministry centers is a soccer field — a key part of the sports-based ministry.
The first place finisher ran the 5K in just over 17 minutes.
