As a Bicentennial School of Excellence, Chelsea Park was chosen to unveil one of the 20 monuments installed in the new Bicentennial Park outside of the Capitol building.
Chelsea Park Elementary was selected to participate in the state Bicentennial Birthday Bash on Dec. 14. As a Bicentennial School of Excellence, Chelsea Park was chosen to unveil one of the 20 monuments installed in the new Bicentennial Park outside of the Capitol building.
CPES teacher Vicki Bailey and CPES students Marcus Kratz and CJ Dunham represented the school. Ruben Studdard was also on hand for the festivities. Hundreds gathered to watch a celebration on the Alabama Capitol steps as Gov. Kay Ivey dedicated the Alabama Bicentennial Park on the state’s 200th birthday.
The park dedication was just one of many events happening throughout downtown Montgomery to remember the day that Alabama attained statehood on Dec. 14, 1819.
The park, which is directly across Bainbridge Street from the front steps of the Capitol, features 16 granite markers depicting important events in the state’s history. The park is free to visit and was designed to create a legacy of Alabama’s first 200 years that will last far beyond the rest of the day’s events.
