Hilltop Montessori will use a $5.3 million loan to refinance and pay for the construction of a gymnasium.
Hilltop Montessori School is opening a $3.4 million expansion next year.
The expansion will be built on land recently gifted from EBSCO Industries and will include a community center, gymnasium, science laboratory, classroom space, multi-media center, art and music areas and a teaching kitchen. It will be two stories and the same size as the school’s existing building.
“As an independent academic institution, we are so grateful to EBSCO Industries,” said Head of School Michele Wilensky. “Phase Three is our way of giving back to the Mt Laurel community. The new extension of the building will be a wonderful ‘after hours’ resource, as well as offer an opportunity to give our students more programming opportunities.”
Just like the existing building, the expansion will be built with “green” principles, maintaining the school’s LEED certification with the U.S. Green Building Council.
The school received approval for a $5.3 million loan at the July 28 Shelby County Commission meeting. The loan will be used to refinance the school’s current investment and to finance the expansion.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion will be Friday, Sept. 18 at 10 a.m. The ceremony will include community stakeholders, students and other supporters.
