MONTGOMERY -- The Chelsea High School girls basketball season ended at the hands of Dothan on Friday morning, as the Lady Hornets fell 57-47 in the Class 6A Southeast Regional semifinals at Garrett Coliseum.
Chelsea kept it close through the first half, but Dothan came out hot in the second half and took control of the game with a 24-point third quarter.
Chelsea head coach Jason Harlow said he was proud of the way his team, and five seniors, progressed throughout their careers.
“I can’t say enough about the five seniors,” he said. “Just two years ago, their sophomore year, they were 5-22. They’ve been here through the good times and also the bad times. I can’t say enough about the character to go from that spot to bring us to 26-6 this year.”
Chelsea and Dothan had trouble finding paydirt in the first half, with each team attempting to find a rhythm. Dothan took a 19-13 lead into halftime, but the Lady Wolves were lethal in the third quarter. Amiyah Rollins had nine points in the third quarter and the Lady Wolves hit three 3-pointers as well.
Chelsea stayed tough in the fourth quarter, creating turnovers and hitting some big shots, but the Lady Hornets couldn’t overcome the deficit. The Lady Hornets went 2-for-16 from 3-point land for the game.
Jordan Parker led the team with 15 points in her final game at Chelsea. Fellow senior Pressley Rains had nine points and 11 rebounds.
Harlow said he hopes the back-to-back regional appearances will keep building the program.
“We’ve moved it in the right direction in the last two years,” he said. “We have good kids, so ultimately we’re excited about what that future has to hold. That foundation was built by those five seniors.”
Chelsea finished the season 26-6.
