In the first round of the Class 6A state playoffs, the Briarwood Christian boys soccer team defeated John Carroll in a 3-2 thriller.
Briarwood struck first with two goals in the first half to take a 2-0 lead into halftime, Freshman Logan Frost took a pass from senior Josh Brower and buried it into the back of the net for the Lions' first goal. Moments later, Brower struck with a goal of his own.
John Carroll battled to score a goal early in the second half to cut the deficit in half.
Frost slotted a ball past the diving John Carroll goalkeeper to put Briarwood up 3-1, followed by a John Carroll goal with 15 minutes to play to make the score 3-2.
Briarwood goalkeeper Kyle Blair made a diving save of a ball played across the mouth of the goal near the end of the contest, and was the last chance for the Cavaliers.
The Lions host Pelham in the second round of the playoffs on Tuesday.
