Friday night presents a golden opportunity for the Oak Mountain High School football team to regain its footing. The Eagles (3-3, 1-3 in Class 7A, Region 3) will host Tuscaloosa County, which has won one game on the season.
The favorable matchup is what Oak Mountain needs. After winning its first three games, it has dropped the last three. The Eagles have been outscored 115-21 in losses to Vestavia Hills, Thompson and Hoover.
Injuries have played a role in the team’s change of fate, as its stable of running backs has been banged up. The team also lost top linebacker Jackson Murphy for the season with a knee injury.
Nevertheless, Oak Mountain should enter Friday’s game with the upper hand. Tuscaloosa County has lost five straight and hasn’t scored more than seven points in any of its past three outings.
The Eagles won last year’s game, 38-18, and lead the all-time series, 3-0.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Heardmont Park.
