BIRMINGHAM -- The storybook run came to an end on Monday morning for the Westminster School at Oak Mountain girls basketball team, but that did nothing to dampen the excitement of the program's deepest run in program history.
The Knights (21-6) battled R.A. Hubbard but ultimately fell short, 48-44, in the Class 1A State Semifinals at the BJCC's Legacy Arena.
In a tight affair the whole way, Westminster held a five-point lead with two minutes to play, but turned the ball over three times in the final stretch, as R.A. Hubbard's A'Nautica Bibbs sank four consecutive free throws in the final seconds to give the Chiefs the lead.
Westminster had never advanced past the sub-regional round before this season, much less breeze through regionals and into the state tournament. The Knights do not graduate any players, and should be strong once again next year.
Morgan White led the Knights with 14 points in the game to go along with six rebounds. Macy Mixon and Rachel Price each scored nine. Anna Rebekah Richburg was a force inside, blocking seven shots.
