Briarwood
The Briarwood football team pulled off a come-from-behind victory over Class 5A, Region 4 leader Ramsay last Friday night. Click here for a recap of the Lions’ thrilling victory.
This Thursday, the Lions play at Fairfield to wrap up region play.
Chelsea
The Chelsea football team suffered its third straight one-possession loss last Friday in a defeat at Minor. Click here for a recap of the game.
This Friday, the Hornets host Calera.
Oak Mountain
The Oak Mountain football team was edged by Spain Park in double overtime last Friday in a Class 7A, Region 3 contest. Click here for a full recap of the game.
This Friday, the Eagles conclude region play at Vestavia Hills.
VOLLEYBALL
Briarwood
The Briarwood volleyball team finished its regular season last week by splitting a tri-match on Tuesday. The Lions knocked off Shelby County (25-17, 25-23) and fell to Springville (21-25, 25-23, 12-15).
On Monday, Briarwood hosts the Class 5A, Area 8 tournament. The Lions will play the winner between Ramsay and Woodlawn in the final at 5:30 p.m. Briarwood has already secured a spot in the South Super Regional tournament, set for later this week in Montgomery.
Chelsea
The Chelsea volleyball team concluded a remarkable regular season last week by splitting a tri-match with James Clemens (25-18, 25-11) and Hoover (25-221, 21-25, 10-15) on Thursday. The Hornets have posted a 46-4 record so far.
On Tuesday, Chelsea hosts the Class 6A, Area 8 tournament. The Hornets will play Calera in one semifinal, with Pelham and Helena playing in the other. The final is set for 6:30 p.m., with both finalists securing a spot in the South Super Regional.
Oak Mountain
The Oak Mountain volleyball team wrapped up the regular season last week by beating John Carroll in four sets on Tuesday and falling just shy against Vestavia Hills (25-18, 25-23, 24-26, 16-25, 10-15) on Thursday.
On Tuesday, Hoover will host the Class 7A, Area 5 tournament. Hoover will face Tuscaloosa County in one semifinal, with Oak Mountain playing Thompson in the other. The final is set for 6 p.m., with the two finalists securing a berth in the North Super Regional tournament, set to be played later this week in Huntsville.
CROSS-COUNTRY
The Briarwood cross-country teams competed in the St. Bernard Oktoberfest Invitational in Cullman on Saturday, with the boys and girls teams sweeping the top prizes. Trent Malloy paced the boys team, finishing second, followed by Joseph Bell in third. Jay Greene (eighth), Ford Thornton (ninth) and Matthew Earnest (10th) also finished in the top 10. Mary Grace Parker was second in the girls race, with Morgan Harris (eighth), Bella Doss (ninth) and Brenner Statt (10th) crossing the line in the top 10.
Chelsea ran in the 28th Annual Husky Challenge at Hewitt-Trussville on Saturday, with both teams finishing 10th. Miles Brush (20th) was the top boys runner, and Teanna Cason (13th) paced the girls team.
Oak Mountain's Walker Cole won the 23rd Annual Tiger Classic in Auburn on Saturday with a time of 15:56. Evie Bell placed fourth in 19:54 to lead the Eagles girls.
