Briarwood Christian School's volleyball team swept both of its matches last week, beating ACA and Indian Springs in straight sets to improve to 11-1 on the season.
Helen Morrison led the way with 13 kills and 12 digs, while Coley Barnes added 11 kills and nine aces. Delaney Whitehead chipped in nine kills and five aces, and setter Stella Woods ran the offense with 23 assists and nine aces.
Briarwood hosts Vestavia Hills on Thursday before taking part in a quad match against Jasper, Pelham and Buckhorn on Saturday.
Elsewhere, Chelsea had a busy week, going 6-2 to improve to 10-6 on the season. The Hornets beat Pell City and Sylacauga before falling to Oak Mountain, then rolled through pool play at a tournament in Albertville with wins over Lawrence County, Scottsboro, White Plains and Decatur, before falling to Southside in the semifinals of the gold bracket.
Alexis Rudolph led the way with 75 kills, 47 digs, 14 aces and five blocks. Layne Moller added 53 kills, 44 digs, four aces and three blocks. Abigail Price anchored the back row with 70 digs, 20 aces and 15 assists, and Anna Burnett directed the offense with 89 assists and eight aces.
Chelsea hosts Calera in its first area match of the season Sept. 8, before a tri-match at home against Northridge and Alexandria on Sept. 10.
Spain Park went 2-1 over the past week, beating Mountain Brook in the Vestavia Hills Outdoor Match and topping Hoover, with the Jaguars' lone loss coming against Bob Jones. That stretch pushed Spain Park to 11-2 on the season.
Peyton Harrington led the way with 62 kills, 35 digs and five aces, and surpassed 500 career kills during the week. Camdyn Kyes anchored the back row with 72 digs, 91 receptions and a 2.19 serve receive rating. Chloe Shumate added 39 kills, setter Lynlee Franks ran the offense with 72 assists and 31 digs, and Payton Bohan chipped in 35 assists and 14 digs.
Spain Park has a schedule change this week, hosting Shades Valley on Thursday.
Oak Mountain swept a tri-match against Pell City and Chelsea, won three of four matches in the West Morgan Invitational and outlasted Pelham in five sets. The Eagles host James Clemens and Helena on Thursday and play Gardendale next Tuesday.
