FOOTBALL

Briarwood

The Briarwood football team picked up a second consecutive Class 5A, Region 4 win last Friday, knocking off Wenonah 16-7. Click here for a recap of the game.

This week, the Lions host 6A Hartselle on Friday night.

Chelsea

The Chelsea football team continued its strong play with a 64-38 victory over Class 6A, Region 5 foe Pelham. The Hornets put up 50 first-half points en route to the win. Click here for a recap of the contest.

This week, the Hornets take their open week.

Oak Mountain

The Oak Mountain football team fell to Class 7A, Region 3 opponent Hoover last Friday night. Click here for a recap of the game.

This week, Oak Mountain remains in action, hosting Pelham in a non-region contest.


VOLLEYBALL

Briarwood

After a busy week of action, the Briarwood volleyball team sits with an 8-16 overall mark. Last Tuesday, the Lions knocked off a strong Ramsay team in four sets. On Thursday, they split a tri-match, beating Corner and falling to Mortimer Jordan. Over the weekend, Briarwood played in the Brooks Invitational Tournament. The Lions defeated Loretto (21-25, 27-25, 15-10), but fell to Lexington (20-25, 23-25), Central-Florence (23-25, 25-19, 13-15) and Wilson (13-25, 16-25). 

Some notable stats from the week:

This week, Briarwood hosts Woodlawn on Tuesday and travels to John Carroll on Thursday.

Chelsea

The Chelsea volleyball team put forth another solid week, highlighted by a title in a Smiths Station tournament to improve to 26-2 on the year. Last Tuesday, the Hornets suffered a Class 6A, Area 8 loss to Pelham (22-25, 22-25, 25-13, 22-25), just their second loss of the year. On Thursday, they rebounded to sweep a tri-match with Vestavia Hills (25-15, 25-19) and Homewood (22-25, 25-9, 15-10). 

Over the weekend, Chelsea won all six of its matches at the Dig Pink Rally, not losing a set in the process. The Hornets defeated Russell County (25-10, 25-10), Central-Phenix City (26-24, 25-14), Valley (25-9, 25-0), Smiths Station (25-11, 25-13), Shaw (GA) (25-11, 25-12) and Harris (GA) (25-17, 25-15). In the Russell County win, setter Bailey-Drew McIntyre notched her 1,000th career assist.

Some other notable stats from the week:

This week, Chelsea hosts Helena on Tuesday, hosts a tri-match with Benjamin Russell and Brookwood on Thursday, and hosts to September SlamFest on Saturday.

Oak Mountain

The Oak Mountain volleyball team had a successful week last week, winning five of the eight matches it played. The Eagles began the week with a pair of wins, sweeping a tri-match with Sylacauga (25-12, 25-19) and Central-Clay County (25-8, 25-9) on Tuesday. They didn’t have the same fortune on Thursday, losing both ends of a tri-match with Spain Park (20-25, 13-25) and Montgomery Academy (16-25, 18-25).

On Saturday, Oak Mountain played in Spain Park’s HeffStrong Tournament. The Eagles began play with a win over Bob Jones (25-21, 25-20), followed by victories over Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa (25-17, 25-18) and Woodlawn (25-13, 25-10). The Eagles bowed out of the tournament after a tight loss to Grissom (16-25, 25-18, 13-15).

This week, Oak Mountain hosts Thompson on Thursday. Oak Mountain is now 20-10 on the year. 


CROSS-COUNTRY

On Saturday, the Briarwood cross-country teams participated in the Randolph Cross Country Classic. Both teams finished fifth, with Adrienne Goolsby the top team finisher in the girls race (15th, 21:14). Joseph Bell was the fastest in the boys race, placing eighth overall in 17:25.
