Demolition on the old Dixie Fish Co. building began in late October. This photo was taken Nov. 2.
The 280 corridor is getting another fast food restaurant. Panda Express, a fast casual Chinese restaurant chain, is set to open a new location on Resource Center Parkway in May 2017.
The Panda Express will be located where Dixie Fish Co. was located, and where Whataburger also announced plans for a new restaurant. Both restaurants will be located off of Resource Center Parkway. There are six other Panda Express stores in the greater Birmingham area, including Alabaster, Gadsden, Oxford, Hoover, Tuscaloosa and on the University of Alabama campus. A seventh location is set to open this December in Cullman, making the U.S. 280 location Panda Express’s eighth in the area.
“This new location enables us to serve our American Chinese cuisine to the highly sought after Highway 280 corridor,” Panda Express senior real estate manager Mike Everage said. “This area has shown great growth in both retail and residential strength, and is one of the core areas within Birmingham.”
