Space Cadets was started in 2001 by Kim McBrayer to help people organize their chaos and create a peaceful, functional environment.
“We simplify spaces so our clients can enjoy their homes without the clutter and chaos that life so often creates,” she said. “I understand my clients because I was my first client!”
Kim said she saw a personal need for organization and created a solution. After organizing herself, she realized she could share her newly discovered skills with others to help simplify their lives as well.
“Our only goal is to improve your space and leave it better than we found it, which may just require a small tweaking of what the client already owns, or it may require a purchase of a new storage system,” she said. “We aren’t there to just sell you something, we will try to use what you have first. However, if we do need new products, we offer multiple options to hit every price point. We have something for everyone and believe everyone should have the chance to get organized.”
Space Cadets offers anything related to organizing your home or office, ranging from closet and garage storage systems with built-ins to accessories such as baskets, containers, drawer dividers and hooks.
“The old adage is true that we get what we pay for,” Kim said. “We offer excellent quality products, and while there are less expensive options on the market, it is never any fun to pay for something twice because a closet falls, often in the middle of the night! Besides, who wants to empty it all and do it all again? So, invest a little more the first time and get it done right to last longer.”
Kim believes being a woman in this industry is an advantage, not a challenge.
“I understand what women want in their homes,” she said. “I think in similar ways to so many of my clients, so I design and organize in a way that automatically makes sense to them. If there has been a challenge, it is the times when I’m working in new construction and I’m surrounded by male contractors. They are often surprised when I pick up my power tools to install, or paint without the blue tape!
“I love what I do because I love to help people,” Kim continued. “It is such a great feeling to know we play a part in moms and dads finding peace and happiness so they can be better parents, or kids performing better in school which raises their self-esteem, or a simple act of finding shoes in the morning to keep employees from running late to work. Organization is such a critical factor in everyday life.”
Kim believes working hard while doing something you love will never be hard work.
“I’m very blessed to have found a way to turn my passion into my career,” she said. “It is never hard to come to work. More often, it is hard to leave, because I’m having so much fun!”
