Bruce Salser, the owner of 280 Auto Service, is a third generation auto mechanic helping residents of Chelsea stay cool this spring and summer.
280 Auto Services has been offering routine maintenance and repairs on all Asian and domestic vehicles — excluding diesel models — since 1987.
One of the most common issues Salser sees as things warm up is clients who are in desperate need of A/C repairs. It only takes a few moments of riding in the Alabama heat before your clothes are soaked through with sweat, and no one wants to deal with that all summer.
A/C issues are hard to ignore, but Salser wants his clients to pay close attention to things that might not be so obvious, like remembering to have routine maintenance done.
There are a few tell-tale signs that it’s time for your vehicle to get a check-up.
“If you’re applying brakes and you feel some vibrations, that’s a sign that they need to be checked or replaced. Every 90,000 to 100,000 miles, you should have other scheduled maintenance such as tune-ups or coolant flushes,” Salser said.
Neglecting to do these things can lead to leaks or cause problems that require much bigger repairs.
Another issue that vehicles may run into is timing belts.
“If you don’t have the scheduled maintenance on a timing belt, it can break and tear your whole engine up,” Salser said. “So, it’s very important to get that checked at least every 120,000 miles.”
