Shelby County is continuing work with a few small projects despite COVID-19.
County Manager Chad Scroggins said that although some projects were scaled back, the county is still doing them.
One of those projects is in Forest Parks off U.S. 280. A connection was needed to get back to Park Road. Scroggins said this was laid out and the county worked with the Parks and Recreation Authority and it now allows for connection between the two areas.
According to the Forest Parks website, residents on Cliff Road contacted the county for bike access to the park without having to go onto Essex Drive. The county agreed and built a new walking and bike trail that will connect Cliff Road to Conroy Lane and go down to Park Road. The trail would allow for both walking and bike riding.
“Some things we can do on a smaller scale make connections in our communities,” Scroggins said.

Another project is a connection at the Cahaba River Park, where the county added another trail: Peaceful, Easy Feeling, that runs parallel with the river.
Construction is still ongoing at the County Services Building on U.S. 280. Elevator shafts and poured walls to secure the area for 911 hardened space have been completed. Work continues on framing and foundation work.
There was no financial report and Scroggins said there was no change in the financial data. New information will be provided at next month's meeting.
Sheriff John Samaniego was in attendance at the meeting and gave an update that zero inmates at the Shelby County Jail are positive for COVID-19, and only 10 have had it over a four month period.
