High Point Climbing Southern Grit indoor climbing competition
High Point Climbing and Fitness’ Birmingham location will host Round Two of the Southern Grit Bouldering Series on Saturday, October 12. The event will feature USA Climbing sanctioned Collegiate Local and Youth Local events from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a Citizens’ Competition from 4 to 7 p.m. for climbers of all ages, abilities, and skill levels.
Citizen’s competitors will be competing for trophies and prizes from presenting sponsor REI Co-op along with other local sponsors.
“We’re so excited for the third year of Southern Grit in Birmingham,” said High Point Manager Ashlyn Brown. “It’s always great to see our community of climbers and competitors grow, and be able to expand the series to add a round this year.”
This will be the third year that High Points has hosted the Southern Grit competition, and the second year the event has been a multi-stop series. The first stop was on Sept. 7 in Chattanooga, and the last two stops will be Huntsville (Nov. 9) and Memphis (Dec. 7).
The series is presented by REI Co-op, a specialty outdoor retailer that just opened its first Alabama store at The Summit a few weeks ago. REI will open their second location in the state in Huntsville later this fall.
The Huntsville stop will also include a local Citizen’s Competition and a sanctioned USA Climbing Youth Local competition. The final stop in Memphis includes a local Citizen’s
Competition and a two-day USA Climbing Pro-Level National Cup competition set to draw some of the top climbers from across the country.
High Point Climbing and Fitness’ Birmingham location is at 4766 U.S. 280. The registration fee is $45. Competitors can sign up by visiting High Point Birmingham’s website at HighPointClimbing.com/Birmingham/Programs/Competitions.
