County Road 11 Intersection
County Road 11 will soon have a left turn lane at its intersection with Old Highway 280.
In response to high afternoon traffic levels from Chelsea High School, Shelby County is adding a left turn lane to County Road 11 at its intersection with Old Highway 280.
Shelby County chief civil engineer Scott Holladay said he had received citizen complaints about traffic backup on CR 11, which currently has only one lane to turn left or right onto 280. The left turn lane project will cost between $40,000 and $50,000.
Construction is scheduled to begin in early June, and Holladay said it should take about a month to complete. County engineer Randy Cole said all construction will be complete before students return from summer break on Aug. 12.
“A left turn lane can be a significant upgrade at a ‘T’ intersection like this one by separating the traffic into two lanes,” Cole said.
