FOOTBALL
The local football teams were in action last week. Briarwood earned a 42-19 win over Shades Valley, pulling away in the second half. Click here for a recap of that contest.
Chelsea earned its first region win of the season, dominating Woodlawn 56-0 on homecoming. Click here for the recap of that game.
Oak Mountain drilled Spain Park 48-17 to start the season 5-1. Click here for the story of the game.
This week, each team remains in region play. Chelsea hosts Huffman, while Briarwood hosts Mountain Brook and Oak Mountain heads to Tuscaloosa County.
VOLLEYBALL
Last week, the Briarwood volleyball team split a pair of tri-matches. On Tuesday, the Lions lost to Ramsay and beat Parker. On Thursday, Briarwood knocked off Shades Valley (25-3, 25-12) and lost to Pelham (25-13, 25-19).
Chelsea dropped a pair of matches last week. The Hornets fell to area foe Homewood in five tight sets (25-13, 21-25, 18-25, 25-10, 15-10) on Tuesday, then lost to Northridge (25-20, 25-23, 25-14) on Thursday.
The Oak Mountain volleyball team played one match last week, falling to Jasper 3-1 (17-25, 25-14, 25-11, 25-16) on Tuesday evening. In that match, Sydney Jaffe had an ace, a 2.28 passing average, an assist and 28 digs.
CROSS-COUNTRY
The Briarwood cross-country team ran in the Jesse Owens Classic over the weekend. Bela Doss finished 11th as the top Lions girl and Trent Malloy, Joseph Bell and Luke Thompson all posted top-20 finishes on the boys side.
Chelsea was also in the Jesse Owens Classic, with the usual suspects topping the charts for the Hornets. Miles Brush was the top boys runner and Cady McPhail paced the girls team.
Oak Mountain ran well in the Jesse Owens Classic as well, with the boys finishing sixth as a team in a loaded field. The girls came home 15th. Walker Cole finished second overall, followed by Hunter Wright (14th), Noah Arrington (72nd), Bryce Caton (75th) and Reese Bell (81st). Lauren Cole was the top girls runner, as she finished 51st.
