A fireworks display from Pyro Shows of Alabama closes the second Chelsea Big Kaboom.
Chelsea’s Independence Day celebration, The Big Kaboom, returns on Saturday, June 29. This is one of the city’s largest events each year with an average attendance of around 4,000.
Gerri Roberts, GIS coordinator at Chelsea City Hall, plans the event with help from members of the City Council.
There will be 20 food trucks on hand for the event beginning at 5 p.m. In attendance this year will be Frios, iCantina, Good Ole Boys, Cajun Boys, Johnny Rays, 32 Below, Dixieland Funnel Cakes, Tee’s Bakery and Cheese Louise. Tables and chairs will be set up, but guests are also encouraged to bring chairs and blankets.
The Red, White and Blue Bicycle Parade for wagons and tricycles will begin at 5:30 p.m. Participation is open to everyone but decorating will need to be done before the parade.
For entertainment, the opening band Nacho Mama will take the stage at 6:30 p.m. and this year’s headliner, Trotline, will play from 8 p.m. until the fireworks show begins at 9:30 p.m. Pyro Show of Alabama will be in charge of the 20- to 30-minute fireworks show, which will be launched from behind City Hall.
Event parking will be behind Winn-Dixie and the Chelsea COPs will be directing traffic along with sheriff’s deputies. Roads around the area will be closing at approximately 6 p.m.
The best fireworks viewing spots include anywhere near Winn Dixie, Tractor Supply or the Chelsea Fire Station. The fireworks show will be synced to music and played on KOOL 96.9FM.
