Members of the Hannah Home Shelby Auxiliary made a trip to Hannah Home’s campus in Chelsea to present them with a $12,000 check.
The auxiliary raised money for Hannah Home, a campus of King’s Home which supports women, mothers and children who have left an abuse or domestic violence situation, at its 2016 Tablescapes Luncheon, which was held on April 6.
“Our main function of the auxiliary is to help Hannah Home pay for the electricity bill,” said Janie Dollar, president of the Hannah Home Shelby Auxiliary.
The auxiliary also gathers donations to give to Hannah Home, such as clothes, blankets or towels, and those help with the home’s budget. The home provides food, housing, medical expense coverage, educational support, counseling and childcare.
After presenting the check, members of the auxiliary and residents of Hannah Home went outside to pray for the program and to pray for the building. Bill Willis, who serves on the prayer team at the Grandview campus of Church of the Highlands, helped lead the group in prayer and invited others to pray as well.
The group prayed for the women in Hannah Home and their families, asked for strength for the program and provided thanks for the staff at Hannah Home and their God-given gifts that were helping to strengthen lives.
Following the prayer, Dollar said the power of prayer would help strengthen Hannah Home.
“This did more, and you [Willis] said it, than that check,” Dollar said.
Willis said it is important for everyone to pray first and let God guide them, something individuals often forget during hard times. He prayed that women in Hannah Home would find strength and the ability to leave behind whatever hardships they formerly faced.
“Change is a process, and it takes working with God,” said Jane Scott, second vice president of membership for the Hannah Home Shelby Auxiliary. “… Sometimes it’s [life is] falling apart to fall into place.”
Gwendolyn Solomon, senior site director for women and children programs, said that three women have transitioned out of the Hannah Home transitional homes in the last few months, and they have gone on to apartment living.
