Oak Mountain got a big win at Hillcrest of Tuscaloosa and now Class 7A, Region 3 foe Vestavia Hills (1-0) comes to north Shelby for a Friday night game at 7. It should be a packed house as Rebels coach Buddy Anderson looks for the all-time career wins record. The Eagles will counter will ball-control offense to try to thwart the legendary coach's attempt.
The Chelsea Hornets are coming off a thrilling season-opening win over Briarwood Christian and it's coach Chris Elmore's job to get his Hornets back down to earth, so to speak. Southside of Gadsden (1-1) visits Friday at 7 p.m.
The Briarwood Christian Lions (0-1) are hurting after a narrow loss at Chelsea. They figure to get well quickly, as they return home for a 7 p.m. game Friday against Jackson-Olin (0-2) in the Class 6A, Region 5 opener.
Spain Park (2-0), ranked fourth in the state, hasn't looked pretty in its first two wins. The Jaguars return home to open Class 7A, Region 3 play with Thompson (0-2), which lost its first two games to Wetumpka and Pelham. Kickoff is 7 p.m. Friday.
