Boys basketball teams begin area play on Thursday.
The Class 7A second-ranked Spain Park Jaguars face Vestavia Hills at 6 p.m. in the area tournament at Mountain Brook. The Spartans face Hewitt-Trussville at 7:30. The winners meet Saturday night at 7.
Hoover hosts Oak Mountain at 7 p.m. That game is preceded by Thompson-Tuscaloosa County at 5:30. The winners meet Saturday at 7 p.m. at Hoover. The girls area final precedes that game at 5 p.m.
In Class 6A, Pelham is host to the area that sees Briarwood Christian and Homewood squaring off at 6 p.m. Pelham and John Carroll follow at 7:30. The finals are Saturday ay 6 p.m.
Chelsea faces Pell City at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at Oxford. The winner faces Oxford on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
