Briarwood
The Briarwood football team won its fourth straight game last Friday, with a win over John Carroll. Click here for a recap of the game.
This Thursday, Lions remain in region play and head to Parker.
Chelsea
The Chelsea football team suffered a heartbreaking loss to Helena last Friday night. Click here for a full recap of the thrilling game.
This Friday, the Hornets stay in Class 6A, Region 5 play, as they host Homewood.
Oak Mountain
The Oak Mountain football fell to Class 7A, Region 3 foe Mountain Brook last Friday night. Click here for a recap of the contest.
This Friday, the Eagles host Tuscaloosa County in a region game.
VOLLEYBALL
Briarwood
The Briarwood volleyball team picked up a pair of wins last week to improve to 12-16 on the season. On Tuesday, the Lions took down McAdory (25-12, 25-5, 25-6) before beating Huffman (25-11, 25-10) on Thursday. Some notable stats from the week:
- Maddie Vaughn: nine aces, 11 assists
- Avery Rose Ochsenhirt: 25 assists, 13 digs
- Ansley Greer: 11 kills, three blocks
This week, Briarwood plays at Wenonah with Tarrant in a Tuesday tri-match.
Chelsea
The Chelsea volleyball team continued rolling last week, blowing out a pair of area opponents and winning another tournament to improve to an eye-popping 42-2 on the year.
On Tuesday, the Hornets took down Calera (25-20, 25-20, 25-18) and on Thursday, they avenged a loss to Pelham with a straight-sets win (25-19, 25-13, 25-22). Over the weekend, Chelsea went down to the St. Paul’s tournament and brought home a trophy.
During the tournament, Chelsea beat Saraland (25-13, 25-19), Murphy (25-14, 25-10), Mary G. Montgomery (27-25, 25-17), Carver-Montgomery (25-11, 25-18), St. Paul’s (27-25, 25-17) and Spanish Fort (25-20, 13-25, 15-13). Some notable stats from the week:
- Bailey-Drew McIntyre: 187 assists, 53 digs
- Victoria Schmer: 96 digs
- Zoe LaBreche: 70 kills, 56 digs
- Hope Wright: 50 kills, 51 digs
- Amaya Rudolph: 45 kills
This week, Chelsea plays a tri-match at Tuscaloosa County with Jasper on Tuesday and hosts a tri-match with John Carroll and Brewbaker Tech on Thursday.
Oak Mountain
The Oak Mountain volleyball team won five out of seven matches last week to improve to 26-12 overall on the season. In regular season play, the Eagles swept Moody, Springville and Clay-Chalkville. Over the weekend, Oak Mountain played in the Metarie Park Country Day School tournament in New Orleans. Oak Mountain beat Belle Chasse and Lusher and fell to Northlake and Country Day. Some notable stats from the week:
- Sydney Jaffe: 52 digs, eight aces
- Madison Como: 23 digs, eight aces
- Lacee Sheaffer: 27 kills, 29 digs
- Landry Frisch: 25 kills, seven blocks
- Jayni Thompson: 28 kills, 11 blocks

- Zoe Atkinson: 28 kills, eight aces, 23 blocks
- Tayler Collier: 22 kills, seven digs
- Kathryn Smith: 59 assists, 13 aces, 10 digs

This week, the Eagles host Northridge on Tuesday and travel to Tuscaloosa County on Thursday.
CROSS-COUNTRY
The local teams participated in the Jesse Owens Classic on Saturday in one of the state’s biggest meets. Running in the gold race were Chelsea’s Teanna Cason (28th, 19:43) and Miles Brush (23rd, 16:30) and Oak Mountain’s Walker Cole (third, 15:45).
